Santa Clara Pueblo is located approximately 25 miles north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Its people are descendants of the inhabitants of the nearby Puyé Cliff Dwellings, an ancient village situated along a stunning cliff face. The current Pueblo was established around 1550 when drought forced Santa Clara ancestors to move down into the Rio Grande Valley. The Tewa-speaking Pueblo is home to slightly less than two thousand people.
Santa Clara Pueblo pottery is among the finest being created today. Beautifully polished redware and blackware are traditional specialties, and emerging potters craft fine carved, sgraffito and polychrome pieces.
