Santo Domingo Pueblo is located 25 miles southwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico, near the ancient and famed Cerrillos turquoise mines. This very traditional Keres-speaking Pueblo is home to slightly more than three thousand people.
While the Pueblo does not have a large production, it does create a fairly broad range of styles. It is known for polished blackware, stylized floral and geometric designs in black or red over a cream, terracotta or brilliant white background. Santo Domingo potters produce some of the largest ollas made today. The family of Rafaelita Aguilar in particular creates some huge pieces.
