Ten-strand coral heishi necklace, interspersed with both light and dark olivella shell heishi.  The neck is finished in the ancient squaw-wrap method of intertwining the individual strands, a style still favored by many Santo Domingo heishi-makers.

In Pueblo cultures, a multi-strand coral necklace is a sign of prestige.  Coral, the red gold of Pueblo jewelry, also symbolizes good fortune and longevity.  The color of the coral that Mary has chosen for this necklace is a shade or two lighter than the color known as 'oxblood'.

The length of this necklace is 16 1/2" when clasped.  The diameter of the heishi is approximately 3/16".
